Milei's crypto scam: Argentina burned by LIBRA Rug Pull
The point: Argentina’s self-styled pro-crypto president, Javier Milei, is facing fraud charges and impeachment calls for playing a key role in what appears to be a classic crypto rug pull. This is terrible news for Tech Fascism, which is counting on crypto scams to fuel its rise to world dominance.
The Back Story: On Friday night, President Milei hyped up a little-known cryptocurrency, $LIBRA, to his 3.8 million X followers, sending its price soaring before it crashed within hours. Thousands of victims lost their money, and Milei quickly found himself accused of promoting a scam. He backtracked, deleted his post, and called it a “mistake.”
“This private project will be dedicated to encouraging the growth of the Argentine economy,” Milei had written, with a link to the $LIBRA crypto project. Now he claims he knew nothing about $LIBRA before he decided to use his standing as president to promote it.
“I was not aware of the details of the project and after having become aware of it I decided not to continue spreading it,” he said, according to CNN. Then why did he – the president of Argentina – promote it?
This fiasco is perfect example of how crypto’s big promises always seem to end in short-term scams. For years, crypto has pushed a fake dream: decentralization, financial freedom, and a revolution against traditional banking. In reality, it's the same story over and over: pump-and-dump schemes, insider profits, and regular people left holding the bag.
And the cracks are showing everywhere. Even El Salvador—the first country to go all-in on Bitcoin—is quietly backing away after its grand experiment failed to deliver anything but headaches. Once hailed as the future of finance, crypto is now looking more like a house of cards, collapsing one grift at a time.
Milei’s memecoin disaster is a reminder that crypto, for all its hype, remains a playground for speculators and scammers. The man basically gave $LIBRA the ol’ Hawk Tuah spit of approval—and it drained their wallets.
Analysis: It remains to be seen whether impeachment proceedings will move forward. But Milei's political capital just took a hit. In addition, it's going to be harder and harder for anyone to push crypto with straight face. Crytpo is a scam-o. Full stop. The best way to learn this is by falling for one of these massive frauds. Just ask the 800,000 suckers who lost nearly $2 billion by investing in Trump's memecoin last month. (Is there some new rule that requires presidents to violate the honor of their office by robbing their supporters with scammy memecoins? Is this Silicon Valley's idea of innovating political corruption?)
Mic Drop: Tech fascists pine for the day when crypto replaces the dollar, but the crypto scam is unraveling fast and the true believers are running out of places to hide. Milei's crypto faceplant is a timely reminder that these guys can be defeated. The Tech Fascist project depends heavily on crypto. Our wannabe Silicon Valley overlords need their fake digital money to build a parallel financial system that can finance parallel forms of government. But they are building their dystopian dream on a scammy, shaky foundation that's bound to collapse sooner rather than later.

Rep. Jamie Raskin Spits Fire on Tech Fascism
More Good News: The Democratic Party has mostly been hiding under a rock as tech fascists rip our government to shreds, but that's starting to change. I was heartened to see Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland hit the topic head-on during a February 15 interview with Brian Tyler Cohen.
It's clear Raskin understands that the country is under attack from an organized group of tech zealots who see democracy as an enemy. Longtime readers will detect some familiar themes.
Two key sections of Raskin's comments:
This guy [Elon Musk] is taking us for a ride and, like all authoritarian and fascist movements around the world in history, corruption is at the heart of it. It's all about allowing people who have lots of wealth and power to seize ever greater parts of the national wealth.
He continues later:
We're dealing with a band of incorrigible, lawless plutocrats who think that they can just control the whole US government. And I keep thinking about what Steve Bannon said about Elon Musk. He said he's a truly evil individual ... But, you know, in the Silicon Valley that network of right-wing billionaire libertarian-turned-authoritarians, they are very open about the fact that they think that democracy is obsolete and we're living in a post-Constitutional America, the Constitution no longer fits, and they are trying to get everybody ready for a techno-state monarchy.
And in their writings about it they suggest that seizure of the control of technology and computers and financial payments is the essence to moving from one form of government to another. So we're really talking about people who would like to abolish American constitutional institutions and representative democracy, and the rights and freedoms of the people. Their guy Yarvin, who's, you know, their big intellectual hero, has said people have got to overcome their fear of the word dictator. He says a dictator is basically just like a corporate CEO. They're all "dictators" in their businesses and so we need a dictator [for] the corporation that's the United States of America and obviously they have Elon Musk in mind...
It's crucial for politicians to begin talking about this issue non-stop because that will force the press to cover it. For whatever reason, the major newspapers have decided to censor this narrative even as it becomes increasingly obvious with each passing day. But if our elected leaders keep bringing it up, even those mush-brained editors will have no choice but to acknowledge it.
Right now, the American people have no clear idea of what's actually happening. That must change, because people power is the only thing that can stop Tech Fascism before it does permanent damage to our nation.
Let's keep pushing!
